FORT LAKE FARM HOUSE

FORT LAKE FARM HOUSE is an ideal self-catering base close to some of the best river and lake angling and watersports in Europe . Comfortably sleeping up to six adults, it is fully equipped – including television and central heating – for short or long accommodation at any time of the year.

The location is ideal for families in peaceful rural seclusion on a hill on a working farm, with its own charming private garden and patio with barbecue. Two of many nearby lakes and rivers are within easy walking distance along quiet country lanes.

It is a great location for fishing parties, with an enormous variety of fresh water angling within easy reach. Boat are available for hire – or there are many free lanching places - to explore the lakes, rivers and canals comprising the greatest coarse fishing complexes in Europe. Equestrian facilities are a short drive away, and there is a good selection of local golf courses.

Fort Lake Farm is only ten kilometeres from the famous Lough Rhynn Castle. www.loughrhynn.ie

The rich rural scenery inspires artists and the Farm House is also ideal for writers and anyone seeking a quiet, affordable retreat in the heart of the country. Yet within an easy drive are many traditional Irish pubs, along with theatres and galleries offering music, drama, poetry and other entertainments and cultural events.

The area is rich in archaelogical sites, with Fort Lake Farm House taking its name from a Bronze Age ring fort nearby.

There is easy road access to Knock Airport, about an hour away, with Belfast and Dublin under three hours on good roads. Nearest towns are Carrigallen (about ten minutes away, with great fishing, rep theatre and pub musical evenings) and Mohill and Ballinamore (about 15 minutes on quiet rural roads).

Fort Lake Farm House is easy to find. Take the R201 running between Mohill and Carrigallen, and then the turning to Lake Augharan, which is sign-posted just by the life size model of an elephant – you can't miss that! Go about 1km along this narrow lane and turn up the hill when you see our sign at the western end of the lake.
